WELCOME

Letter from Dr. Suzanne Hetts

Welcome, pet parents!

As an animal lover and professional behaviorist, I have always considered my pets to be members of my family. As you may know, there are many parallels with raising a child and caring for a pet. One of the most frustrating things about caring for babies is that they can't talk; they can't tell their parents exactly how they feel or what they want. Fortunately, babies grow up to be verbal children, but pets never do. So, that leads me and PetSmart to ask: How do we really know what our pets are feeling and what they want when they can't talk?

Dogs and cats exhibit many behaviors that give us a window to their emotions. But most pet parents aren't trained to recognize these behaviors or interpret their meaning. To help you break the 'code', I've partnered with PetSmart and Dr. Robyn Jaynes, PetSmart's resident veterinarian and pet care expert, to help you, the pet parents, recognize and understand your pet's communication behaviors.

Our goal is to serve as a resource that allows you and your pets to have an even stronger relationship because you better understand the meaning of your dog or cat's behavior. If Your Pet Could Talk offers a variety of tools including quizzes, videos, exercises, and materials that will better enable you to provide your pet with a healthy, happy life.

Enjoy!
